150 Years of Family Tradition
More than 150 years ago, long before cigar makers were prevalent in the Dominican Republic, Don Bartolo Reyes owned acres and acres of land on which he grew one of the finest tobaccos destined for worldwide consumption for generations to come.
SECOND GENERATION
1910 signified a new phase for the Reyes family. Don Alcedo Reyes started planting the variety snuff called “Olor Dominicano”. The land used for planting was located in Villa Gonzalez, considered at that time to be the best area to grow tobacco.
THIRD GENERATION
Don Alcedo Reyes was followed by his son Julio Samuel Reyes. The younger Julio expanded the lands for planting and began to recruit the best growers from the area. He acquired storage facilities which enabled him to purchase and house tobacco leaves.FOURTH GENERATION
In 1950, Priamo Reyes followed in his father’s footsteps. Dedicated to the family business, he began to plant tobacco in Navarrete, where it continues to grow and thrive to this day. In 1962, Priamo Reyes brought to the Dominican Republic the first Cuban tobacco seeds. Don Priamo, considered a pioneer in the growing of these seeds, was devoted to the planting, nurturing and the effective maintenance of the tobacco plant.
FIFTH GENERATION
Don Priamo Reyes remained an advisor to all the tobacco plantations and warehouses. He founded a company called Flor De Los Reyes through which his sons Priamo Jr., Emilio Alcedo, José Leonardo, Juan Rafael and Augusto Antonio managed the family’s business enterprises and legacy. This company successfully introduced methods of fermenting, curing, stripping and packing the best tobacco leaves grown in the country. The brothers divided the work, making each responsible for one part of the process. The Reyes family has two cigar factories and numerous tobacco plantations which are managed separately but maintain family ties and make joint decisions through a Board of Directors.
SIXTH GENERATION
The Reyes family through time and over generations has created a legendary product based on their hard work and tobacco knowledge. Younger members of the family including Marlon Reyes, Edgar Reyes, Augusto Reyes Jr. and Nirka Reyes actively participate in the family enterprise. Born in Dominican Republic, they live for the growing of tobacco and the cultivation and process of making a cigar. Like their ancestors, cigars and anything related have become their passion.
Augusto Reyes Jr., has been responsible for the distribution of cigars in the United States since 2010. He has been bringing new concepts and styles while maintaining the exquisite quality of cigars. He has developed three brands: Augusto Reyes Sixth Generation, Urban, and Augusto Reyes Signature. Augusto Reyes Jr. is currently living in Miami, and working on developing new concepts and markets.
